GENERIC NAME: Cefadroxil
STORAGE: Cefadroxil should be stored at room temperature, 15C-30C (59F-86F), away from moisture and light, and out of reach of children and pets. Once mixed, the suspension should be refrigerated and discarded after 14 days.

Duricef use to treat urinary tract infections (caused by E. coli, P. mirabilis, and Klebsiella), skin and skin structure infections caused by staphylococci and streptotocci, and pharyngitis and tonsillitis caused by Streptococcus pyogenes. Urinary tract infections (uncomplicated) can be treated with 2000 mg daily in divided doses. Skin and skin structure infections can be treated with 1000 mg daily in one or two divided doses. Pharyngitis and tonsillitis can be treated with 1000 mg daily in one or two divided doses for ten days.

Shake the liquid form of Duricef well before measuring a dose. To ensure that you get a correct dose, measure the suspension with a dose-measuring spoon or cup, not a regular table spoon. If you do not have a dose-measuring device, ask your pharmacist where you can get one. Take Duricef at evenly spaced intervals to keep a constant level of drug in the body. It is important to take Duricef regularly to get the most benefit.
Duricef can be taken with food to reduce stomach upset.
Urinary tract infections (uncomplicated): 2000 mg daily in divided doses.
Skin and skin structure infections: 1000 mg daily in one or two divided doses.
Pharyngitis and tonsillitis: 1000 mg daily in one or two divided doses for ten days.
The usual dosage for all infections in children is 30 mg/kg/day in divided doses every twelve hours.
In renally-impaired adults, the initial dose is 1000 mg, followed by maintenance dosage of 500 mg at intervals determined by your creatinine clearance: 25-50 mL/min takes maintenance doses every 12 hours; 10-25 mL/min takes maintenance doses every 24 hours; 0-10 mL/min takes maintenance doses every 36 hours.
Symptoms of overdose include seizures. If you suspect overdose, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
Adverse / Side Effects
Stomach upset, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these highly unlikely but very serious side effects occur: stomach/abdominal pain, persistent nausea/vomiting, yellowing eyes or skin, dark urine, new signs of infection (e.g., persistent sore throat or fever), easy bruising/bleeding, change in the amount of urine.
This medication may rarely cause a severe intestinal condition (pseudomembranous colitis) due to a resistant bacteria. This condition may occur while receiving therapy or even weeks after treatment has stopped. Do not use anti-diarrhea products or narcotic pain medications if you have the following symptoms because such products may make them worse. Tell your doctor immediately if you develop: persistent diarrhea, abdominal or stomach pain/cramping, or blood/mucus in your stool.
Use of this medication for prolonged or repeated periods may result in oral thrush or a new vaginal yeast infection (oral or vaginal fungal infection). Contact your doctor if you notice white patches in your mouth, a change in vaginal discharge or other new symptoms.
A serious allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing.
Less serious side effects may include:
swollen tongue, trouble swallowing; mild nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or stomach upset; white patches or sores inside your mouth or on your lips; sores or swelling in your rectal or genital area; or vaginal itching or discharge.
