Ocuflox is used to treat eye infections. Ofloxacin belongs to a class of drugs called quinolone antibiotics. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria.This medication treats only bacterial eye infections. It will not work for other types of eye infections. Unnecessary use or overuse of any antibiotic can lead to its decreased effectiveness.

Uses For Ocuflox
Treating and preventing eye infections associated with conjunctivitis (pink eye) and corneal ulcers caused by certain bacteria in patients 1 year of age and older.

Ofloxacin Drops are an ophthalmic fluoroquinolone antibiotic. It stops or prevents bacterial infections of the eyeball by either killing susceptible bacteria or inhibiting their growth.

Ocuflox Dosage for Conjunctivitis

The standard dose of Ocuflox for treating bacterial conjunctivitis (commonly called "pink eye") is one or two drops in the infected eye every two to four hours for two days, and then one or two drops four times a day for five more days. The dose is usually the same in children and adults.

Ocuflox Dosage for Corneal Ulcer

When treating a corneal ulcer, Ocuflox eye drops are used frequently, especially in the first couple of days of treatment.

The standard Ocuflox dosage for treating corneal ulcers in adults and children is as follows:

- Days 1 and 2: One or two drops in the affected eye every 30 minutes while awake and one or two drops in the affected eye overnight, four to six hours after going to bed.
- Days 3 through 7 to 9: One or two drops into the affected eye every hour while awake.
- Day 7 to 9 through the end of treatment: One or two drops into the affected eye four times a day.

Your healthcare provider will determine how many days you need to continue using Ocuflox.

Important safety information:
- Ofloxacin Drops may cause blurred vision. Use Ofloxacin Drops with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks if you cannot see clearly.
Tell your doctor or dentist that you take Ofloxacin Drops before you receive any medical or dental care, emergency care, or surgery.

- Be sure to use Ofloxacin Drops for the full course of treatment. If you do not, the medicine may not clear up your infection completely. The bacteria could also become less sensitive to this or other medicines. This could make the infection harder to treat in the future.

- Do not use Ofloxacin Drops for future eye problems unless directed by your doctor. Ofloxacin Drops should not be used in CHILDREN younger than 1 year old; safety and effectiveness in these children have not been confirmed.

- PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING: If you become pregnant, contact your doctor. You will need to discuss the benefits and risks of using Ofloxacin Drops while you are pregnant. It is not known if Ofloxacin Drops are excreted in breast milk. Do not breast-feed while taking Ofloxacin Drops.

How can Ocuflox affect other medicines?
If you are using more than one type of eye drop you should administer them at least five minutes apart, to prevent the second drop washing away the first. Use eye gels or ointments last.

Ofloxacin eye drops are unlikely to be absorbed into the bloodstream in sufficient quantities to affect medicines that are being taken by mouth. However, you should tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are using any other medicines, including those bought without a prescription and herbal medicines, before you start treatment with this medicine, so they can check that the combination is safe.

Ocuflox may temporarily sting or burn your eyes for a minute or two when applied. Temporary blurred vision, eye discomfort, itching, redness, dryness, tearing, feeling as if something is in your eye, or sensitivity to light may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly.Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.Use of this medication for prolonged or repeated periods may result in a new fungal eye infection. Do not use it for longer than prescribed. Contact your doctor if you notice new or worsening symptoms.Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: eye pain, swelling of your eyelids or face.A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction may include: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.This is not a complete list of possible side effects.
